Anticipainter
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
Try to paint every tile within the maze, but there's a twist...
You can only paint while the game has control!
The game takes control every few seconds – try to anticipate what will happen so you're away from danger when you lose control.
Bumping into a white wall is harmless, but a red wall will end your game. Try to see if you can find a location where you will not die once the next sequence of moves is executed. Look at the sequence on the right side of the screen to strategically Anticipaint!
See how many tiles you can paint without dying! Try for all 81 if you want a real challenge.
We created this game using the Electron framework along with jQuery and PixiJS for visuals. All assets were made using scalable vector graphics!

Heya, I was assigned to give feedback to your game! After playing it I have to say that I'm quite happy with it. The sound effects were a much needed addition. Overall the polish of the game is very much on point.
I'm aware you're adding more levels, could I possibly suggest that you add incrementally sized maps? The current one is a little too big to be the starting map.
The main level and main menu could also use some music to it, as right now the sound effects help but the game still feels a little dry. Unless I'm missing something as I did see a music volume slider in the main menu Settings. Overall you should be real proud of the game that you've made! :)
Thank you for the kind words! You are correct, currently there is no music in the game, hense why the master and music volume sliders are locked where they are in the settings. Maybe the decision to have them there but be locked was a little vague.
Incrementally sized maps are already in development, as well as rectangular maps and maps that are not regular shapes at all. Really glad you were happy with the game, and thank you for the feeback :)
Overall a pretty good game, pretty much everything is great. Just needs more polish on the sound department, a background track and is pretty much done.
Thanks for the feedback! When you say "polish on the sound department," was that referring to adding music alone? or something about the current sounds. I wonder because we are up for changing anything if it will make the game be a better experience.
As for music, we are currently in the works of adding just that, as well as many other features like multiple levels are more! So stay tuned!
Mostly the music, although I feel the normal sound effects need a little bit more oomph.
Are there any other builds available? I can't get it to run on linux, even using a windows program executor
Providing builds for all platforms was the original intention, but we got close on time so we decided to play it safe. We will be providing the other builds once the jam rating period has ended.
In the mean time, if you are familiar with the Electron framework, you can run an Electron instance with the <itch_games>/anticipainter/resources/app.asar file as the path and the game should run! (this way, you know you are using the same version of the game as everyone else)
Happy Anticipainting!
cool, thanks, I'll give it a shot!
Argh, this is super fun yet incredibly frustrating! I love/hate that moment just before the timer runs out where you realise you’re about to die!! My best is 39, no highscores here.
Could definitely see this being a small mobile timewaster, even if no more mechanics were added. Great game :)
Yeah haha it's hard! We might add some new mechanics and a bit more polish down the line though, so stay tuned :)
